Screenwave International Film Festival 2022 (SWIFF’22) introduces a new and exciting audio-visual experience with SWIFF Live. SWIFF Live will be presenting two new films both being accompanied by live music.
Starting with Beautiful Dark: the Music of Twin Peaks, the iconic music of David Lynch’s masterpiece will be performed by a 7-piece ensemble, each dressed as a character from the ground-breaking show. Using video and audio from the series, along with projections, props and a total commitment to the original soundtrack this show takes the audience on a journey through a strange and mysterious world. This will be held on Thursday 28th April at the Jetty Memorial Theatre.
Then, introducing Surfing Soundwaves Feat. Headland, which will host the premiere of award-winning Australian director Jolyon Hoff’s (The Staging Post, SWIFF’18) epic new film, That Was Then, This is Now, with Australian composers Headland, on Saturday 30th April at the CHEC Theatre. The Surf Film Archive, Light Sound Art Film, and SWIFF have teamed up with Headland to create a pulsing audio-visual experience celebrating the birth of Australia’s surf culture. Examining Australia’s cultural identity as a surfing nation, this film presents restored and remastered Australian and New Zealand original surf films, uncovering remarkable never-seen-before footage, preserving these influential moving pictures for future generations.
SWIFF Live presents Beautiful Dark: the Music of Twin Peaks
Who killed Laura Palmer? Sheriff Harry S Truman and FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper lead the charge, as SWIFF’22 proudly presents Beautiful Dark: the Music of Twin Peaks – Australia’s pre-eminent interpreters of the music of David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti, live on stage.
Immerse yourself into the small alpine community of Twin Peaks once more through
Badalamenti’s iconic music scores. Beautiful Dark have regrouped to reinterpret and
reimagine the world of David Lynch and Mark Frost’s television series in its most immersive
way yet. A powerhouse collective, Beautiful Dark focus on bringing the mood and music of Twin Peaks to life.

SWIFF Live presents Surfing Soundwaves Feat. Original Live Soundtrack by Headland
Before Crocodile Dundee became Australia’s cultural identity to the world for decades, bronzed Aussies surfers were our national identity – seen around the world thanks to Australia’s pioneering surf filmmakers.
In this not-to-be-missed live music and film screening event, Headland (previously live at SWIFF’20) perform, in a 6-piece ensemble, an original and unique soundtrack to the absolute best of the archives’ stunningly restored surf visuals. All restored in glorious 4K.
